If you want to view PDF files, then you’re set with the free application Bluebeam Vu. But if you want more than that, if you want to view and edit PDF files, then you must take a look at Bluebeam Revu. This is a user friendly application that features a customizable interface and lots of PDF editing functionality. The functionality depends on the Revu version you’re on, mind you.

There are several Bluebeam Revu versions for desktops: Standard, CAD, and eXtreme. Bluebeam Revu is also available for mobile devices: Bluebeam Revu for iPad.

The setup wizard that guides you through the installation process of Bluebeam Revu allows you to play with the following options: make Revu the default PDF viewer, place a Revu shortcut on the desktop, place a Stapler desktop on the desktop (Bluebeam Stapler offers binding and batch conversion capabilities), install Internet Explorer plugin, preload Revu at startup.

When the setup wizard is done and you launch Bluebeam Revu, you will be presented with a Welcome prompt that invites you to select a profile (the Office profile for example is great for proofreading and reviewing documents) and choose a look for the interface (pick between a Dark and a Light look). And speaking about the interface, it must be added that Revu has a tabbed, ribbon interface.

As mentioned above, the functionality you get from Bluebeam Revu depends on the version you’re on. Here are the main bits of functionality you can expect from Bluebeam Revu Standard: view PDF files, customizable markup tools, save custom markups, pin PDF files, view recently accessed PDF files, track annotations, upload PDF Files to the cloud, sync PDF Files locally, collaborate on PDF files with Bluebeam Studio, SharePoint and ProjectWise integration, mark up and manipulate 3D PDF files, save Office documents as PDF files

Bluebeam Revu is free to use for a trial period of 30 days.

Lots of PDF editing functionality, a good looking interface, and exceptional ease of use – all these three bases are covered by Bluebeam Revu.

Pros

A setup wizard will help you install Bluebeam Revu on your PC. Pick one of two looks for the interface; it is a ribbon interface that is very easy to use and can be customized. View and edit PDF files; create PDF files from Microsoft Office and Outlook. There are several Bluebeam REvu editions for desktops and a version for iPad.

Cons

Trial limitations: 30-day evaluation period.
